Urban Trails within Strathcona County based upon surface type. Most of the Urban Trails are within Sherwood park, with a few in Ardrossan and Josephburg.

“Playing Fields" are outdoor areas of land covered in grass and/or loose shale designed to facilitate organized and unorganized recreation that are owned or maintained by Strathcona County. These areas are commonly sport fields with designated boundaries for particular activities (i.e. soccer field) but can also allow general recreation and may not have specific visible boundaries on-site. It includes the bounds of the area as designated by Strathcona County and are always within a 'Park'. These typically include soccer field, football fields and baseball diamonds. Similar items excluded include Basketball Courts and outdoor rinks.

“Splash Parks" are outdoor areas designated for water recreation that are owned by Strathcona County. Typically, a splash park (also referred to as a spray park) is a concrete area with water pipes, jets, colourful characters, and other items that move water by shooting, spraying, trickling, or other similar means. They are typically focused for children but all residents are welcome. Splash parks are usually within a 'park' but not always. This data set does not include areas like outdoor swimming pools, or water recreation features that people do not interact with such as decorative fountains. Splash park features are represented as polygons.

Data being provided is based on a valuation date of July 1, 2011 and a property condition date as of December 31, 2011. Strathcona County does not warrant, or guarantee the accuracy of this information. The County does not assume nor accept any liability from the use of the information. “Playgrounds" are areas of land covered in a resilient surface containing play equipment designed to facilitate general recreation that are owned or operated by Strathcona County. These areas are commonly sand or rubber covered areas surrounded by one or more concreate retaining walls with swings, slides, decks, forts and other similar equipment. The bounds of the playground area are designated by Strathcona County and are always within a 'Park'. Playgrounds can be located indoor or outdoor. This data set includes traditional sand-covered playgrounds and creative playgrounds. It does not included are facilities like BMX parks, parks, or splash parks.
